CBT
We can all have unhelpful or negative thoughts about ourselves or the world around us. This can often have a negative effect on our ability to manage our problems. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) which is a type of talking therapy can help us manage our problems by changing the way we think about things, such as unhelpful thoughts and behaviours. It can help us to focus on the present and teach us practical skills we can use to improve our well-being. Often described as the Gold Standard Treatment, CBT has been well studied and combines a combination of cognitive therapy and behaviour therapy approaches. It is currently one of the most common psychotherapies offered.
The main idea around (CBT) is that it is practical and structured. At the beginning of each session, we will work collaboratively setting an agenda. We will bring together some understanding of any unhelpful thoughts and behaviours that may be maintaining your problem. Often, we call this a 'vicious cycle' and sometimes we find it difficult to break the cycle causing us distress.
We will try and identify smart goals and look at ways we might achieve the goals.
CBT can be useful in the treatment of mental health conditions and can also be a useful treatment for physical health conditions such as chronic pain as it can help individuals to cope better with their symptoms.
How can I help?
If you are suffering with feelings of anxiety, low-mood or are feeling overwhelmed then you are not alone. You may be considering reaching out for support and don’t know how or where to turn. You might be wondering how therapy can help you and if it can make a meaningful difference in your life. My office is based on Islay, and I can offer face to face sessions as well as virtual appointments.
Some of the conditions I can offer CBT for include..
Depression / low mood
Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD)
Social Anxiety
Health Anxiety
Low self-esteem and self-confidence issues
Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
Panic and stress.
As part of what I offer I include a telephone consultation; this is a free telephone appointment that is used to try to identify if CBT would be beneficial to you and if so, make arrangements on how to proceed with therapy. We would then arrange a suitable appointment date for ongoing treatment which is normally on a weekly basis.
I provide face to face therapy at my local office in Bowmore or virtual therapy appointments for those who cannot attend in person. My fees are £70 per session face to face and £60 for virtual appointments. The sessions last approximately 50-60 minutes.
There is a 24 hours’ notice policy which is required if you need to cancel an appointment. The charges for not giving notice stands at half the session fee which would be £35.00. However, I am aware that due to circumstance out with the control of others, this may prove difficult, so would be happy to waive charges in this case.
Please feel free to get in touch using the online form in the contact page, and I can offer guidance on whether therapy would be the correct option for you.
